The world's best fixed pitch font -- Consolas -- is available for download now.
Caveat: This font REQUIRES ClearType. Don't even both trying to look at it without it.
P.S. It's worth pointing out Scott Hansleman's post which tells you how you can use this for your console windows, if you want such capability. I couldn't live without it, personally. Lucida Console is teh suck by comparison. :-p
